My name is Nic Fielding, and I live in Kamloops, BC. I am currently in Practicum 2 during these dates: November 12th-December 12th, 2025.
I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder later in my life. Without realizing, I had become an advocate for other people with ASD. I want to get my Special Education Certification to be able to work with children who have developmental challenges who may need the support and resources that I unfortunately didn’t have when I was a child.
My personal pedagogical commitment is to encourage/empower children to form their own thoughts and choices. I have chosen this because the topic of are we raising children to be obedient or are we raising children to think for themselves has really stood out to me. It addresses the idea that current children, teenagers, and young adults are susceptible to being pressured into specific values or beliefs based on what society is pushing and not based on their own critical thinking. With these thoughts in mind, I am wanting to help build a foundation for life-long critical thinking for individuals to be able to make decisions by themselves.
